Ah, so, it’s been quite a while since I updated the ol’ “Daily Grind.” I guess its technically not “daily” now is it. I don’t even know if anyone besides Marcus is still checking up on the site here. I only know Marcus is because he told me so today at work.

Things have been quite busy lately, leading to the lack of updating. As I write this I am at the headquarters of a Republican congressional candidate named Jim Klauber in Greenwood, S.C. Currently we are waiting for him to arrive. It was a lot of fun trying to find the place. The road name on the assignment sheet was wrong. I found the place pretty much by accident. Arni helped me get in the general direction; he used to live here in Greenwood. Since we don’t really cover Greenwood, I don’t come here too much. I get lost every time. I mean every time. I still don’t know how I’m going to get out of here. If I don’t update soon assume I’m lost in the wilds of Greenwood County, doomed to forever drive country roads in a white Ford Taurus with Anderson Independent-Mail plastered on the side. I even got stuck with the car with the stinky trunk. Someone, more than a year ago, apparently flooded the trunk somehow. I don’t know who and I don’t know how but it smells SUPA MUSTY. If you have to drive the company cars, you know the one I’m talking about.

Meghan is currently in Bowling Green, KY. Her grandmother is in the hospital. She had a heart attack and has kidney problems. She is seemingly recovering but the situation is still serious. She is not a candidate for open heart surgery due to her age (85) and the kidney problem. They are planning to do an angioplasty (I don’t know if I spelled that correctly) on Thursday. They have scheduled several other times for it and keep moving it back, so Thursday it may be postponed again. They want to do more tests, it seems. Apparently her heart attack was caused by a blood clot and the clot is still in her heart. They are scared of dislodging it during the procedure. Pray for her. She was like Meghan’s second mom in college, and was to me as well. We spent a lot of time with them during our days at Western she’s a wonderful lady

Work is work. That is to say - busy.

They just said the candidates going to be even later coming here now. Woo hoo. Deadline is looming. This is a blast.

Anyway, back to work. Did I mention its busy? Freedom Weekend Aloft a few weeks ago, only photog this past weekend with concerts (Yes, I now have a Lynyrd Skynyrd back stage pass hanging on my locker, I know you’re jealous Peeg) and Clemson baseball. Yup.

On the home front, garden is doing well. I’ve already gotten 3 tomatoes off my better boy plants. Mmmmmm. Lots of raspberries coming in too. I hope to finally finish the kitchen tomorrow. Yes, I’ve been saying that for months now but this time I mean it. Yeah, right, you say.

Nick, my youngest brother, graduated high school last weekend. All I can say to that is wow. He has a full ride to the University of Alabama through an ROTC scholarship. An army guy came to his school’s awards day to present him with the scholarship. He made a nice speech in which he called Nick an “outstanding American.” The family all agreed that we never really thought of Nick in those terms. The man went on to say that while many of his classmates are wondering what they’ll do when they graduate college, Nick already knows. He must join the Army but that’s ok because he wanted to do that anyway. He really wants to jump out of airplanes for some reason I’m really proud of him, though. The scholarship not only pays for tuition, room, board and books, but pays him a monthly stipend. He gets $250 a month his first two years and then more each year after that until he graduates. There is only one of these scholarships at UA and he got it. He is now working hard in preparation for his PT test that is coming up. Good luck Nick.

The candidate still isn’t here but all these republicans keep trying to look over my shoulder to see what I’m writing. They think they’re being smooth but I can see them trying to sneak a peek. I was cornered by a hard core NRA member a little while ago. Oh what fun. Must keep mouth shut. Must not express personal opinions. Also should go. More later.
