So, it has been requested by some parties that I update my web site. There comes a time when (say, like, after two months) one wonders what information to post on a web site since so much can happen in that space of time. Lets see...

One of the things that has happened is that Meghan left to go to St. John’s College in Santa Fe, N.M. to work on her masters degree in English. She’ll be gone until the end of July. I miss her. I did get to go out and see her last week, but more about that later.

My brother Joe and I, trying to make something good out of something bad like Meghan being on the other side of the country, started recording an album. After much deliberation, we decided that the upcoming and highly anticipated first release will be called “Overt/Covert.” As we are serious artists, the name, of course, has meaning. The album will contain original songs as well as cover songs. So, we (and it will help if you say this to yourself in an Alabama accent) “went overt our own songs and done covert them other songs.” Four tracks are done. We recorded three of them in one day. Things were going well that day, so we refused to shower so as not to “wash off the funk.” We also decided to go simply by “Chandler Brothers.” As opposed to “Sibling Rivalry.” Apparently Joe and I were the only ones who actually thought this was a good name. Oh.

You may remember that I mentioned earlier in this post a trip to New Mexico to visit a certain hot girl that I married several years ago.

HELP! Arni is banging on my desk. Long story.

Back to New Mexico. I had never been out west before, other than a trip to San Francisco when I was a teenager during which I decided to be moody and not leave the hotel. The American west is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Sure, I’ve seen the photos. I’ve seen the paintings. Nothing though, prepared me to be in the middle of all that beauty. It was awesome. I shot many photos (which the Target in Santa Fe promptly scratched the negatives of for me but I won’t get into that -- must - not - get -angry). I was out there for about 5 days. Santa Fe is cool. Peeg would love it. Art is everywhere. There is even a road called Canyon Road which is nothing but art studios. The artists work in the studios as you walk around. There is something for every taste. Painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, even folk art.

The coolest day, though, was a day in which we ventured into the desert and took lots of western landscape photos. First we went to a place called White Rock. You literally walk out onto this rock with wildflowers and cacti and look down on the Rio Grande snaking though miles and miles of scrubby cliffs punctuated by big plateaus. IT WAS COOL. Then we drove up to Bandalier National Monument. This is where the pueblos in the cliffs are. Again. Beautiful. Then we drove back, with me stopping to take photos of cool rock formations every few miles. When we got back to Santa Fe, we went to the Georgia O’Keefe museum for free (its open later for special free hours on Fridays) and then went to eat at a New Mexican style restaurant called Marias. I had some really freakin hot food and a Margarita which was really just tequila with a little lime. Then, to top it all off, since it was the fourth of July and all, we watched fireworks. Overall, a thouroughly awesome day.

The next day we went back to Santa Fe. We went to a chapel that was built by Loretto nuns (the order our mom used to be). In this chapel is “the miraculous staircase.” It’s a beautiful spiral staircase put together with no nails and which has no means of support. It was built in six months by a vagabond carpenter that many believe was actually St. Joseph. He used only a square, saw, hammer and water to bend the wood. When he finished it, he disappeared with out getting paid.

Also while downtown, Meghan let me by a traditional Native American cedar flute. It is in G and sounds really great. She has purchased some really pretty jewelry while out there too.

So. There is a long entry for ya. Hope you made it through to the end and were mildly amused. I’ll update again in another two months. JUST KIDDING. Maybe.
