So, I'm in Chicago. Myself and intrepid Independent-Mail reporter Kelly Davis are here doing a profile on a non-denominational church called Willow Creek Community Church. To say it is enormous is putting it lightly. This place is on a 100+ acre campus with a lake. The building looks like a sprawling office complex. They're building a new auditorium that holds about as many people as Clemson's basketball arena. THEY HAVE A FOOD COURT! This is not a lie. They have like 5 or 6 different little restaurants to choose from and a huge atrium with 3 big screen TVs so people can eat and watch church on TV. Woof.

And guess what! This church is one of those big northern churches that loves to do mission work in the poor, impoverished, backwards south! That's right. We talked to one person whose been on trips to Mississippi and this poor little town called ANNISTON, ALA. Yeah. They came down and built houses in that "poor impoverished little town" as the preacher said during Sunday services, "where little black children were sleeping in storefronts."

I told the girl who went on the trip, "Hey, that's my home town!" she gave me a surprised look. "What," I asked, "you can't tell from all the tumors?"

"No, but I can tell from your accent," she said.

Thanks.

So anyways, it is really cold up here. It's Monday morning and it is in the 30's. Man, I like South Carolina. We're flying back today. It's been interesting. I got to eat Chicago style pizza in a sports bar with a zillion TV's and just about any NFL game on you could want. Mmmmm.

Just a few more days until the fiddler's convention! This time next week it will be all said and done. I'm looking forward to it. Dave is stopping by on Wednesday on his way to Anniston to see all the little children sleeping in store fronts. I'll be sure to toss them a biscuit as I drive through on my way to fiddlers.

Geoffrey seems to like the digital camera the family got him. Check out his blog for more. Link is at the top of the page.
