Joe and Nick had stuff about exams frying their brains on thier sites, so I guess I shouldn't tell them I'm all done with my exams. Oops. I just did. Tell them my exams are over. Oops I Did It Again (That's for you, Marcus, if you read this). I had one yesterday and one last Tuesday. I already know I got a 96 on the one from last week. We also had a research paper due that day, and I got an A on that too, and the Prof is talking about trying to get it published in a reading journal, so I guess that class ended pretty well. The one I had yesterday I found stressful (yeah, I know, all exams are stressful) but there is an ironic twist as to why. I shall explain.

The test I had yesterday was 100 questions, open notes and open book. You may be thinking to yourself, "Open notes!? That's easy!" Well, I'm here to tell you otherwise. First off, let me dispel the idea that you need not study for an open book test. This is not the case. I did know this going in, and I did study. I made it a point to know where things were and even marked spots in the book and my notes with sticky notes so I could easily navigate. Since I studied, you'd think I'd be OK. Here's the rub. Even though I pretty much know a lot of the answers to the questions, a result of the afore mentioned studying, I found my self wanting to, neigh, compelled to check the answers even when I knew they were probably correct. I spent at least an hour longer than I should have on the exam looking stuff up. And when I couldn't actually find the answer, OH THE STRESS! It may sound silly, but I bet Joe knows what I mean. We have similar temperments. Anyway, I found the open book test to be a mixed blessing. I now have a few weeks of no school. I start again May 18.

On the homefront, I started the garden. It is much bigger this year than last. I figure that we might actually have to live off of it since I'm quitting my job and all so I'm going to grow as much freaking food as I can.

Jamie has photos of Dave's 30th Bday party on his site. I couldn't go - had to work. Blech. I missed you guys, Dave and Jamie. I played White Room Sat. night imagining it might be about the time you guys were jamming.

Its off to bed. I feel wierd not having school work to do. I'm plagued with the feeling that I should be doing something but I can't remember what it is. Last night I dreamed a song about all these educational theorists we learned about in class. Don't remember much of it but it had great names like Vygotsky in it and terms like Zone of Proximal Development. The one line that I remember is this:

Teach minorities to speak properly says Delpit
Don't say they just can't help it
Because in the real world Whole Language does them no good
no good!
In the real world Whole Language does no good!
